Parent Orientation

Welcome to Bishop Guilfoyle Academy

We are happy you’re here!

We’re here to make your transition to our school as seamless as possible, so we have compiled this orientation for parents.

Even once you have been with us a while you may find it to be a useful reference. 

  • You are not alone! There are many new students every year.
  • Most students begin in preschool or kindergarten and also in Junior High. Penn Mont is a feeder into BG’s 7th grade, St. Patrick’s into 9th grade, and other students transfer in during every school year except 12th grade (we do not accept senior transfers)
  • If you feel overwhelmed we are here to help.
  • Contact us if you have questions.  

Our goal is to have you, the parents, and your child(ren) quickly feel at home at BG.

Software and Systems

BG has adopted software tools for digital communications and interactions. Below are the key systems. 

Application and Enrollment

STS Admissions & Enrollment application has 3 steps: Apply, Enroll, and Agree to the tuition contract. The agreement shows full tuition before scholarships and financial aid which the vast majority of student receive so it is not the amount you will end up paying.

Financial Aid and Tuition/Fee  Payments

STS Financial application is used to (1) apply for financial aid (2) accept financial aid  (3) set up a payment plan. You set timing for scheduled payments. Registration is not complete until a payment plan is set up. Use the same STS login account information from the application step.

ParentSquare

ParentSquare is the key communications method between the school and parents. You can get messages on your mobile phone through the ParentSquare app. If you have multiple children you can receive messages from different buildings all in the same app. It also would be used for emergency alerts.

PowerSchool

Powerschool is BG’s official Student Information Service (“SIS). It maintains the offical roster, class schedule, grades, and more.  You can monitor your student’s grades here.

Cafeteria Account

MySchoolAccount is the account to deposit funds for your child’s cafeteria account. They use a code to pay for their meals out of this balance. The price of a “full meal” is very cost effective so please talk to your child about selecting a “full meal” (ask cafeteria staff if they are unsure) to keep your costs down.

Canvas

Canvas is BG’s learning management system (LMS). It is used in grades 6-12 to access assignments, lessons, and other content posted by the teacher. Students also submit their work. This is a popular system used by universities, helping students be ready for higher learning.

FinalForms

FinalForms is BG’s is used by the Junior and Senior High Schools to roster athletics teams, manage permission slips, and more.
